Luke & Eleanor | 35mm Film Wedding

This one is a special and different blog post!

My little sister got married!!!

Whilst we don’t do weddings Eleanor had asked us to take some film photos & do a wee camcorder video which is much easier to do whilst still being present and fully involved in the day! Nathan was a Groomsman & I was a Bridesmaid and between us all we passed the cameras round & got to capture their day in a special & unique way!

They had the incredible Adrianne & Eden from Leafe-Hayes Photography as their photographer who took the most beautiful photographs of the day! They really are the sweetest souls and it was so good getting to see them again!

When it comes to 35mm Film, I have quite a few different cameras and have them assigned for different purposes. Most of the film work you’ll see from me is shot on my Nikon F90 + Sigma 35mm Lens — that’s my main camera for any Scotland based work. It’s a pretty bulky camera & is bigger than my main actual cameras which is why I don’t like to travel with it. So for the last couple of years I’ve been using the Leica Minilux Zoom (all my Iceland & Oregon film photos were taken on this). I also keep this camera close by as a backup for Scotland based work just incase something were to happen to my main film camera.

Back in August my Leica Minilux zoom broke on me & I need to send it off to the states to be fixed. So in the meantime I thought it would be a good idea to get a backup & had heard the Contax T2 was top of the market as a point and shoot film Camera. So a couple of months ago I made the investment and but had only had chance to do one test roll in the camera before Eleanors Wedding & I’ll be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan — about 2/3rds of the images came back unintentionally out of focus. I gave it the benefit of the doubt that it could just be user error & so for Eleanor’s Wedding I shot entirely with the Zonal focus or infinity focus rather than Auto Focus but still think the results aren’t top tier. Don’t get me wrong these are beautiful photographs & we’ll all cherish them but for a camera that is significantly more expensive than the Leica I have had much higher expectations.

Something I did do a bit differently this time was to ask for the scans with the borders still on & I do really love that & think it really adds to the nostalgic feel film gives.

Anyway, all of this to say, I wanted to share these photographs because they’re special & I love them but don’t want to mislead anyone into purchasing the Contax T2 as I do think there are much better alternatives out there!
